Hi-Rez Studios releases new update, including SMITE god, Isis

Today, Hi-Rez Studios have released a new SMITE god, Isis, Goddess Of Magic. Once a ruler of Egypt with her husband Osiris, Isis now wields her scepter as a mage protecting and boosting allies with her range of abilities. With her ultimate Circle of Protection, Isis plants her staff into the ground, allowing allies within radius to take less damage from all sources. The new goddess can also disrupt her enemies with Dispel Magic, silencing and causing them to lose a portion of magic protections. Players can also purchase a new skin, ‘Queen of the Nile Isis’.

A new Global Agenda themed skin is now available for Vulcan. The Sentry Vulcan skin can be purchased with gems, or is free to those who have reached Level 30 on at least one character in the game Global Agenda. The skin will be automatically applied to the Hi-Rez Master Account linked to the Global Agenda character.

Also introduced in this latest patch is new god leveling functionality. For every game that is won, a player’s chosen god will earn Worshipers. The more Worshipers you have, the higher your God Rank. There are 10 ranks for each god plus a Mastery level.

Rift Free to Play starts on 12th June

Rift, another one of the initially subscription MMOs, can’t handle the pressure of rivalry and starting from 12th June will be transition into free to play.

A subscriber model remains, albeit with subscribers renamed as “Patrons” – as is customary during a free-to-play transition. Patrons will be getting additional buffs, but crucially, the world won’t punish free players. “All players will have total access to the entire world,” writes Rift creative director Bill Fischer. “Every dungeon, every raid, every Warfront, and every level. We won’t be locking our content or advancement behind walls – our goal is to break down every barrier. We want more people playing together and more people having fun together.”

While new players will receive less starting inventory and character slots, Trion promise that for previous owners of the game – even those who no longer subscribe – nothing will be removed.

June 12th will also bring the game’s 2.3 update, titled Empyreal Assault, adding a new zone, world event, Chronicle and “Stronghold” challenges.

Dota 2 | The International 3 Championship – Teams

Valve announced the 13 invited teams that will participate in The International 3 Championship for Dota 2.

The teams are: Invictus Gaming (iG), Orange.Neolution, Alliance, Fnatic, Team Liquid, Natus Vincere (NaVi), Team Zenith, Team Dignitas, Virtus.Pro, DK, LGD Gaming.Int, Invasion MUFC, TongFU.

The last 3 spots to the event will fill from two qualifiers (East and West Qualifiers). Those qualifiers will be hosted by GDStudio from May 13 to 19 for the West division and by BeyondTheSummit from May 20 to 26 for the East division. The winners of the East and West Qualifiers will join the other 13 teams. The last spot will be determined after a wildcard match between the runners-up from the two qualifiers.

The third “The International” Dota 2 Championship will be host on Aug 7th on Seattle.

Evil Geniuses drops popular StarCraft 2 player for disrespecting eSports community

Evil Geniuses, one of the leading North American eSports organizations, released well-known StarCraft 2 player Greg “IdrA” Fields today for disrespecting the eSports community in a forum comment.

Fields, who had been a part of Evil Geniuses for almost three years, was a controversial fixture in the eSports scene for his negative attitude and hot temper. In response to a half-joking statement suggesting that Fields’ outrageous behavior resulted from a perceived need for strong personas in eSports, he wrote (screencap via PCGamesN), “Nope you’re all a bunch of fucks. It just so happens I get paid to treat you like it. It’s awesome.”

In a statement on the Evil Geniuses website, CEO Alexander Garfield said the decision to let Fields go was not undertaken lightly, and that it left everyone at the company with “a very heavy feeling in [their] stomachs.”

“As most of you are already aware, we let our players be themselves,” said Garfield. “No great novel is without great characters, and we like to let our players find their own roles within the eSports storyline by showcasing the personalities they were born with.”

As a player-first company, said Garfield, Evil Geniuses would tolerate a certain level of behavior as long as it remained confined to match play. Garfield did not refer specifically to Fields’ forum comment, but said his company would not stand for insults directed at fans outside of a game setting.

“To us, there’s a very big difference between a player being disrespectful to an opponent in a ladder match, and a player being disrespectful to the entire community of people who, via their own enthusiasm and passion for the entertainment product he creates, actually make his profession possible,” Garfield explained.

He continued, “We, as a company, cannot and will not be supportive of anyone who does not show due respect and appreciation for the community that makes everything we do possible.”

Riot Games revealed Aatrox, the Darkin Blade

Just a while ago, Riot Games revealed the next champion for League of Legends. His name is Aatrox, the Darkin Blade. Read the complete announcement bellow.

Aatrox, the Darkin Blade emerges from the shadows of history to slake his thirst for blood and battle. This deft warrior cuts down his foes and drains their life force with his blade. Aatrox’s abilities cost health to cast.

Aatrox Abilities

Blood Well (Passive)

Aatrox stores a portion of his abilities’ health cost in the Blood Well, which slowly drains to a base amount while he is out of combat. When Aatrox loses all of his health, he draws on the Blood Well and recovers the amount of health stored.

Dark Flight

Aatrox rises into the air and slams into a target location. Enemies within the impact zone are knocked up and take damage, while nearby enemies take damage.

Blood Thirst

Aatrox heals himself on every third attack. Activating Blood Thirst toggles Blood Price.

Blood Price: Every third attack now deals bonus damage instead of healing Aatrox. Aatrox loses health based on the bonus damage dealt.

Blades of Torment

Aatrox fires a line attack that damages and slows enemies caught in its path. Aatrox is refunded a part of the health cost if Blades of Torment strikes an enemy champion.

Massacre

Upon activation, Aatrox instantly damages enemies in an area around him. For the duration of Massacre, Aatrox gains bonus attack speed and range. Massacre has no health cost.

Aatrox Gameplay

Aatrox is a basic attack dependent melee champion who excels as a duelist and team fighter. His built-in sustain and escape mechanics make him an ideal fit for top lane.

Aatrox on Top-lane

The sustain from Blood Thirst keeps Aatrox’s health topped off, allowing him to farm throughout the laning phase. Aatrox excels as a duelist, able to switch to Blood Price for heavy burst damage when trading with his lane opponent. After the exchange, Aatrox can toggle back to Blood Thirst to top off his health. When he’s ready to finish the job, Massacre adds significantly to an already potent burst combo.

If the lane isn’t going Aatrox’s way, the knock-up effect from Dark Flight can be used to set up ganks for his jungler. Or, if Aatrox has bullied his enemy out of lane, he can push aggressively, safe in the knowledge that the disengage from Dark Flight and Blades of Torment’s slow will aid his escape when enemies come charging. Even when things go totally wrong, Blood Well offers a second chance to secure kills or make a quick exit.

Aatrox in Team fights

Aatrox’s mobility gives him an innate ability to pressure enemy carries in team fights. Blood Thirst grants Aatrox plenty of sustain as he tangos with enemy initiators and tanks. When he sees an opportunity to reach an enemy carry, Dark Flight closes the gap and allows the punishment to begin. When Aatrox is in deep, the area of effect burst and extra range from Massacre, and slow on Blades of Torment prevent high-value targets from escaping. All the while the consistent healing from Blood Thirst and resurrection effect from Blood Well keep him alive long enough to cut through enemy squishies.

If Aatrox’s team is on the defensive, a well-aimed Blades of Torment can slow multiple enemies and open a window for retreating allies to slip away. Alternately, he can kite enemies with Dark Flight, and create an opportunity for the remainder of his team to turn and counter-initiate. If Aatrox is focused, Blood Thirst’s sustain and the Blood Well keep him in the fight, giving his teammates an opportunity to cut through foes as he resurrects and delivers the killing blow.
Aatrox Lore

Aatrox is a legendary warrior, one of only five that remain of an ancient race known as the Darkin. He wields his massive blade with grace and poise, slicing through legions in a style that is hypnotic to behold. With each foe felled, Aatrox’s seemingly living blade drinks in their blood, empowering him and fueling his brutal, elegant campaign of slaughter.

The earliest tale of Aatrox is as old as recorded history. It tells of a war between two great factions remembered only as the Protectorate and the Magelords. Over time, the Magelords won a series of crushing victories, leaving them on the brink of obliterating their sworn enemy forever. On the day of their final confrontation, the Protectorate army found themselves outnumbered, exhausted, and poorly equipped. They braced for inevitable defeat.

Just when all hope seemed lost, Aatrox appeared among the ranks of the Protectorate. With but a few words, he urged the soldiers to fight to the last before throwing himself into battle. His presence inspired the desperate warriors. At first, they could only watch in awe as this unknown hero cleaved through their enemies, his body and blade moving in unison as if one being. Soon, the warriors found themselves imbued with a potent thirst for battle. They followed Aatrox into the fray, each fighting with the furious strength of ten until they had won a most unlikely victory.

Aatrox vanished after that battle, but the Protectorate army’s newfound fury did not. Their surprising triumph led to many more until they were able to finally return home victorious. Their countrymen hailed them as heroes, but though they had saved their entire civilization from destruction, darkness lingered in the mind of each warrior. Something within them had changed. Over time, their memories of battle faded, only to be replaced with a grim revelation: their acts of heroism were, in fact, brutal atrocities committed by their own hands.

Tales like these appear among the myths of many cultures. If they are all to be believed, Aatrox’s presence has changed the course of some of the most important wars in history. Though these stories remember him as a savior in dark times, Aatrox’s true legacy may be a world filled with conflict and strife.

SMITE Tournament Series Begins with $1000 prize pool per week

Hi-Rez Studios is expanding involvement in the SMITE eSports and competition scene.

Hi-Rez is now hosting separate North American and European tournaments every weekend, with $1000 in weekly prizing for each region.

Teams are able to register for their region and compete weekly against the best teams on regional servers.

Games will be broadcast in English on the official channel www.twitch.tv/smitegame

EU coverage will begin at 2pm GMT/3pm CET every Sunday.

League of Legends trailer introduces the frigid Ice Witch, Lissandra

A new trailer from Riot Games introduces the tribes of the frozen Freljord and Lissandra, the newest champion to battle upon the Fields of Justice in League of Legends.

Lissandra, as seen in her Champion Spotlight video below, is a magic-damage mage who excels in crowd control; almost all of her abilities impede an opponent’s movement and actions via slows, roots and stuns. Her ability kit also contains a number of defensive mechanics to compensate for her relatively short range. In an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, pro League player Reginald cheerfully described Lissandra as “broken” — i.e., quite overpowered in her current state.

League of Legend’s Patch 3.6 is a comprehensive update featuring the introduction of Lissandra and visual and gameplay reworks of two other champions, Sejuani and Trundle. Players can align themselves with one of the three warring factions in the frozen land of Freljord to receive a new Summoner Icon.

Patch 3.6 also includes the Howling Abyss, a map designed specifically to support the popular fan-made “ARAM” (All Random, All Mid) match type, in which champions are chosen at random and must fight as a team down a single lane. With the Howling Abyss map comes an official ARAM matchmaking queue; previously the game type had only been limited to custom games.

League of Legends NA & EU LCS Spring Winners

After 10 weeks of the regular season and 1 week of playoffs we have our NA and EU LCS Spring Winners for League of Legends. Fnatic are the EU LCS Spring Winners and TSM Snapdragons are the NA LCS Spring Winners.

Europe LCS Spring Playoffs

In the Friday’s quarterfinals EG Raidcall and SK Gaming won against Copenhagen Wolves and Against All Autority respectively. In the semifinals Fnatic was against EG Raidcall and Gambit Gaming was against SK Gaming . Just like the community votes, Fnatic and Gambit won a place in the Finals of Europe LCS Spring. In the Finals and after 5 closed games Fnatic won the title of the EU LCS Spring Champions.

North America LCS Spring Playoffs

NA LCS Spring Playoffs was all about the underdogs. In the Quarterfinals, not only, Good Game University eliminate Dignitas from the Semifinals, but also, CLG lost against Vulcun. In the Semifanls, GGU did it again and after their win against Curse, they took a place in the finals of the NA LCS Spring. In the 2nd semifinals Vulcun made it difficult for TSM, but at the end SoloMid won. In the NA LCS Spring Finals, GGU showed again that they have what it need to win, but the TSM’s performance was even more outstanding. After 5 great matches TSM Snapdragon won the first place on the NA LCS Spring.

The Third Dota 2 The International Championship Announced

Valve announced that the third “The International” Dota 2 Championship will be host on Aug 7th on Seattle.

Sixteen teams from all over the world will compete for the first of the tournament and for thousands of dollars in prize pool. The first team invited to this year’s tournament will be returning champions Invictus Gaming. Another 12 teams will be invited directly from Valve “over the coming days” .

Pokemon Black and White 2 players can grab Deoxys over Wi-Fi May 8

Pokemon Black and White 2 players will be able to grab an extremely rare legendary monster via the game’s Wi-Fi distribution service next month: Deoxys, a promotion-only, Psychic-type juggernaut.

Deoxys is one of only a few Pokemon that can’t be caught natively in the series without a special item distributed at promotional events. Starting on May 8, Black and White 2 owners won’t need to schlep to a tournament or movie premiere to grab Deoxys; all they need to do is snag it using the Wi-Fi Mystery Gift option found on the game’s main menu. This particular Deoxys will carry a special set of moves, and can be transformed into different “Formes” to drastically alter its stats.

The end date for the promotion has not yet been announced, so interested trainers should grab Deoxys soon after it surfaces May 8.
