Path of Exile(POE) is a game I started to play 3 months ago on closed beta. Its an online Action RPG who developed from a small group of people in New Zeland. Right now POE is in Open Beta and Its free for everyone. Before you try it out I should suggest to read this review.
Path of Exile Review
Lets get start with some lore. In POE the story begin in the Wraeclast Continend where all the characters are exiled. There alone or in groups have to choose his own skills, discover their own powerfull items in order to survive the challenges of an unknown world.
Classes & Skill Tree
In Path of Exile there are 3 different attributes, Strenght(Red), Dexterity(Green), Intelligence(Blue) and 6 Classes. Marauder (Strenght), Ranger (Dexterity) and Witch(Intelligence) have one basic attribute while Duelist (Strength/Dexterity), Templar (Strength/Intelligence) and Shadow(Dexterity/Intelligence) have two. The maximum level in PoE is 100 but Its very difficulty for someone to reach it beacuse of the experience cap when you reach high levels. Every time you get a LvL you gain 1 Point who can use it at the Skill Tree, which give you Passive stats in your character. So you can get 100 Point + 11 from quests. The skill tree is huge and it is the same for all the Classes. The only difference is that every class start from different point, but you can still use every passive of the tree. You can see Path of Exile Skill Tree here. In the beginning you will feel a little lost but you get use to it.
Act & Quest
When I started to play the game it was only 2 Acts and 4 difficulty levels, but right know, in the Open Beta, Path of Exile’s team added a hole new area to explore and they redused the levels of difficulties to 3. This mean that when you finnish Act 3 in Normal difficulty, you will move on in Cruel and after that in Merciless. In Cruel and next in Merciless difficulties brings hardest mobs to kill and better items to find. Just like Diablo III did.
Money unit – Currencies
In Path of Exile there is no gold but currencies. Every time you sell items on ventor you get back Currencies that you can use to buy items. Except of this you can find currencies by killing mobs or opening chest. There are 23 Currencies in PoE that they can offer differend result by using them. Here you can find every Path of Exile’s Currency.
Gems – Active Skills
Gems are items that you can use on gears’ sockets which will give you a Power/Status and they are separate on Active and Support Gems. With Active gems you can get a new active skill, while with Supports Gems you can get an additional power in your current active gems. In order to compine a Active and Support Gems you have to link them together. Gems are also separate in 3 collors (Red= Strenght Gems, Green= Dexterity Gems, Blue= Intelligence Gems) and there are many differend gems(Active and Support) that you can find in ground or via Quests. Finaly, gems will gain XP and levels every time you kill a mob or complete a quest just like your character. Every time gems level up will upgrade his stats.
Maps
Maps serve as the endgame content in Path of Exile and it is random quest areas with their own special features. Those features, called affixes can make maps more difficult but can also increase your potential rewards. You can find and access maps on Eternal Laboratory after you complete Act 3 on Merciless difficulty.
Game Modes
The basic game modes of Path of Exile are 2, Default and Hardcore, and they’re called “Leagues”. If you die in Hardcore your character will be tranfered to Deafult League. There will also be some other Leagues with different rules which will hold for a certain period of time. Those League are like fights/battles with the winners earning prizes.
Remarkable work
That was my Review about Path of Exile. In my opinion the effort of Grinding Gear Games to develop this game is remarkable. It might don’t have the best graphics out there but the complexity of the game make you feel that this may be the game of the future.
